Inquire of the Lord Daily
There is nothing comparable to the peace that God brings to my life day by day. Yesterday, at church, our Pastor Grogan showed us how Elijah--strong, faithful servant of God that he was--had an intense fear of King Ahab's wife, Jezebel, who was out to kill Elijah. He left everyone, even his greatest servant and friend, and went out by himself to hide from Jezebel. There, alone and frozen with fear, God spoke to Elijah in a "still, small voice" (1 Kings 18 and 19) and reminded him (in verse 19:18) that there were seven thousand others out there that still feared and believed in God!
[This story is a great reminder to me of how important it is not to isolate myself from a strong support network; positive Christians who are strong in their faith. Most important in my life is the strength, joy and wisdom that I am surrounded with at my own church.]
Pastor went on to say that sometimes in his life (Pastor Grogan's own life) that this "still, small voice" is experienced in the fortifying strength that daily devotions bring. As we spend time reading our Bibles and talking with God, and listening for His guidance, he brings peace to our hearts. He gives us the, "Your okay" peace of mind and comfort to our hearts.
In short, He keeps us sane in an oftentimes insanely busy and chaotic world. To keep ourselves bolstered with the gifts God offers of sanity, peace, solid joy, compassion, etc., we must inquire of the Lord daily. He is always with us and has ready all that we need at any given time.
